First opened in 1914, Yamashiro brings the ancient history of Japan to the Hollywood Hills with a 600 year old Pagoda set lakeside atop a mountain overlooking Hollywood and Downtown Los Angeles. Japanese gardens and Koi fish ponds provide a tranquil setting for dining at this highly praised Japanese restaurant.
The ZA-82-358-NC decision mandated that after 1993 this historic piece of land, with its hotel-apartment units, restaurant, and lounge, be torn down and reconstructed to conform with present-day building standards. In 2010, EPG removed the tear-down order for building on the mountain, including Yamashiro. EPG helped the owner obtain the approval to continue operating the beloved restaurant and lounge and maintain the apartment-hotel units as they had, as well as expanded the liquor license to include all of the Yamashiro common areas outside of the hotel and restaurant.
